VIEW REPORT (648K)
The South Fork Coeur d'Alene River and some of its tributaries in northern Idaho have been heavily impacted since 1884 by the dispersion of metal-enriched materials from the Coeur d'Alene mining district. Information on the effects of ground water enriched with cadmium, lead, and zinc seeping into the river system was needed to evaluate the necessity and feasibility of remediation along gaining reaches. This report identifies gaining and losing reaches in the river system, defines the distribution of ground-water seepage to gaining reaches, and quantifies metal loads entering and exiting the principal gaining reaches.
