Water-Resources Investigation Report 98-4203

Probability of Detecting Atrazine/Desethyl-Atrazine and Elevated Concentrations of Nitrate in Ground Water in the Idaho Part of the Upper Snake River Basin

Michael G. Rupert
Abstract

This report describes results of a study done in cooperation with the Idaho State Department of Agriculture to develop maps that portray the potential for ground-water contamination by atrazine and nitrate. These maps were developed so that protection efforts can be focused in areas of greatest concern. Atrazine and nitrate occurrence probabilities were compared to determine whether nitrate could be used as a surrogate for predicting contamination by other compounds.
