Idaho District Fish Sampling Sites

The U.S. Geological Survey used fish communities as ecological indicators of water-quality in Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Wyoming. Biologists sampled a representative reach of a stream's fish, benthic invertebrate and algal communities and associated habitat using National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) methods to assess the status and trends of the communities as they are related to water-quality and land use. The methods used are described in the publications listed below:
- Meador, M.R., T.E. Cuffney, and M.E. Gurtz. 1993. Methods for sampling fish communities as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment Program. U.S. Geological Survey OFR 93-104, Denver, Colorado. 40 p.
- Walsh, S.J. and M.R. Meador, 1998. Guidelines for quality assurance and quality control of fish taxonomic data collected as part of the National Water-Quality Assessment Program, U.S. Geological Survey OFR 98-4239, Denver, Colorado. 33 p.
There are over 160 sites with related fish data. Site data can be downloaded by clicking a link below. (The data is best viewed in Excel.):
