The fish data files are in a tab-delimited format. The files have the row and column definitions as below. Fish data files after 1995 do not contain the following columns: UDATE, TAXID, USGSFG, PARENT, SCINM, AUTH, TAXON, SRTCD, RNKCD, and USRCE.
Row Number Column Name Description
- pre-1996 Date file was last updated. See USRCE for the update source.
- SUNAME Study Unit Name (4-letter abbreviation)
- USNK=Upper Snake River
- LSNK=Lower Snake River
- SALM=Salmon River
- CWAT=Clearwater River
- NROK=Northern Rockies
- SNAME Site Name
- STAID Station ID number (If no ID number use LAT/LONG)
- DATE Collection date as mm/dd/yy
- CTYPE Sample type (""FSH"" for fish)
- REACH Reach identifier (""A"", ""B"", ""C"")
- SMCOD Sample identification code (SUNIT + Month &Year of DATE + CTYPE + accession number)
Rows 9 to end are defined as such.
- pre-1996 TAXID Taxonomic identification code
- pre-1996 USGSFG Flag to indicate that this taxon has been assigned a temporary TAXID
- pre-1996 PARENT TAXID of the next highest ('parent') taxonomic level
- pre-1996 SCINM Scientific name
- pre-1996 AUTH Taxonomic authority name and date
- pre-1996 TAXON NODC code
- pre-1996 SRTCD Sort code generated by taxonomic database & used for taxonomic sorting
- pre-1996 RNKCD Code for the taxonomic rank(p=Phylum, C=Class, etc.
- FISHNO Sequential fish number for a station/reach/date/species
- METHID Collection method ID code
- FISHNAME Name of fish, common or scientific
- NTYPE Name type (""SCINM"" = scientific name or ""C"" for" common name)
- FSHTIME Sampling time(seconds) or number of seine hauls
- LABFG Code that indicates if the fish were identified in the field (""F"") or laboratory (""L"")
- VOUCHER Abbreviation of the facility where voucher specimen(s) is(are) deposited
- BATFG Code indicating whether the weight and/or
anomalies were determined from a batch of fish (""Y"") or from a single fish (""N"")
- TLNGTH Total length of an individual fish (mm)
- SLNGTH Standard length of an individual fish
- FSHWGT Weight (grams) of an individual fish or a batch
(group) of fish. If data are from a batch, then the BATFG flag should be 'Y
- ABUND Number of fish that represent the weight and/or
anomalies data for that line. This value is
'1' if BATFG in 'N', indicating that the data"
data are for an individual fish. If the value is
'-1' this indicates the the fish is a hatchery
fish. Earlier datasets indicate hatchery fish
by using the keyword hatch in the column
following PE - popeye disease.
- SDATE Date (mm/dd/yy) that the data were entered into the file by the study unit
- SSRCE Data source. This should be the study unit or the name of the ichthyologist that performed the field or lab identifications
- pre-1996 USRCE Update source (lab. id or name)
- DE Deformities. Number of fish with deformities
- ER Eroded fins. Number of fish with eroded fins
- LE Lesions. Number of fish with lesions
- TU Tumors. Number of fish with tumors
- AL Anchor worms
- BL Black spots. Number of fish with Black Spot disease
- CL Leeches. Number of fish with leeches
- FU Fungus. Number of fish with fungus
- IC Ich. Number of fish with Ich
- NE No Eyes. Number of blind fish
- PA Other external parasites. Number of fish with external parasites other than the ones listed above
- PE Popeye disease. Number of fish with Popeye disease
- Hatchery fish Earlier datasets used this column to note that fish was a hatchery fish. This field is also used to denote hybrid species. The column can be shared since a fish is not both a hatchery and hybrid species.
